Artfix canvases provide a conservatory-grade painting surface that holds color as the artist first painted it. Artfix uses the finest Belgian linen, featuring the longest natural thread for a strong, flawless surface.  For nearly 40 years, the Narozni family have been crafting fine art supports in Provence, where the warm, dry climate is ideal for slow and stable drying of primed fabrics. By combining time-honored European methods with modern chemistry, Artfix canvases provide a conservatory-grade painting surface that assures the artist’s expression will survive the passage of time. Linen’s pH stability is far superior to cotton, whose vulnerability to external and internal acids compromises its permanence. All Artfix canvases are double sized for protection against oil paints, allowing uniform "breathing" which reduces paint-film stress. Up to 4 layers of primer are hand applied and sanded—which prevents peeling, flaking, or cracking. Fine portrait linen has a very tight weave and a beautiful even grain. It is excellent for portraits and detailed artworks. The lead style oil primer provides traditional lead ground qualities without its toxicity. Its unique absorbency allows oil paints to "bite" into the surface, increasing adhesion and depth of color. When glazed, colors glow from within.
