Comments about Inactive Product - 1-Shot Lettering Enamel- Vinyl Primer, Quart
I bought this product after consulting the 1-shot website, and they recommended it. I used it on a brand new plastic mailbox I was painting. I had to look up the directions on the 1-shot website because they are not printed on the can, and I followed the directions to a T, not having done this before. Using the tape-test recommended by the directions, I discovered the primer had not adhered to the surface properly. I tried sanding and reapplying, but that only marred the surface and it still didn't adhere. Now I have an unusable mailbox and more than 3/4 of a quart of primer that didn't work and is highly toxic according to the labeling that I have to research how to dispose of properly because I don't want to give it away or try to sell it and give some other unfortunate soul the same frustrating experience. Don't waste (a lot of) your money.
Merchant Response
Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with this primer. We're sorry it was frustrating for you, and of course we'd like to help. Any time you're working with an unfamiliar product or process involving something you've purchased from us, please get in touch with our Product Information Team for guidance. This primer in particular is suggested for vinyl and most (not all) synthetics, as you no doubt saw on the 1-Shot website, which is why the first step is to test adhesion. We're happy to advise you on how to test for adhesion in an inconspicuous area so as not to ruin your materials (which defeats one of the purposes of testing). We also provide the Safety Data Sheet on our website (as does 1-Shot on theirs) which outlines the handling, storage, ecological and disposal considerations you should have in mind when using an industrial/professional product like this. We encourage all our customers to be attentive to the safe handling and disposal of materials, and this should have been a consideration for you even had your project been successful. Blick's Product Specialists are available weekdays from 8am to 5:30pm CST at 1-800-933-2542 or info@dickblick.com.
