Comments about Lefranc & Bourgeois Flashe Vinyl Paint - Iridescent Parma Pink, 125 ml jar

I bought Iridescent Parma Pink on impulse and have ended up using it regularly, even at times and in ways that are not in. the scheme of the painting but just what's needed to make it work. I can't give enough praise for Lefranc & Bourgeois Flashe Vinyl Paint. I have nearly the entire line and buy large jars when available. The consistency is like a really creamy butter. It holds to the painting tool whether it's a brush or a silicone painting tool and yet transfer to the panel, canvas or glass in my case with a fluidity that is remarkable. It will hold impasto shapes, stumbles beautifully, and can make a narrow line like it knows what you're trying to achieve. For freer flow I mix with GAC 800 and/or Clear Tar Gel.

Pigment Information

This color contains the following pigments:

PY42-Mars Orange

PW6-Titanium White

PW5-Lithopone

Pigment Name

PY42-Mars Orange

Pigment Type

inorganic, earth

Chemical Name

iron oxide

Chemical Formula

Fe2O2 or Fe2O3 • H2O

Properties

Mars Orange is a bright, extremely light red and appears almost pinkish in contrast with darker colors. It has incredible tinting strength and opacity. The synthetic form of Mars Orange is made from iron oxides and is cleaner, brighter, and denser than its ochre-based counterparts.

Permanence

Mars Orange has excellent permanence and lightfastness.

Toxicity

Mars Orange has no significant hazards.

History

The word Mars refers to the Roman god of iron and war. Mars Orange has been manufactured as a pigment since the 17th century.

Pigment Name

PW6-Titanium White

Pigment Type

inorganic

Chemical Name

titanium dioxide

Chemical Formula

TiO2

Properties

Titanium White is the most brilliant of the white pigments. It is considered an all purpose oil color useful in all techniques and the best all around white. Its masstone is neither warm nor cool, placing it somewhere between Lead White and Zinc White. It is less prone to cracking and yellowing than Lead White, but it still yellows easily. Titanium White dries slowly in oil form, more slowly than Lead White but more quickly than Zinc White. It is opaque in oil and acrylic forms and semi-opaque in watercolor form. This pigment has good chemical stability, and its tinting strength is superior to both Lead White and Zinc White.

Permanence

Titanium White has excellent permanence and lightfastness.

Toxicity

Titanium dioxide is highly stable and is regarded as non-toxic.

History

Titanium is the ninth most abundant element in the Earth's crust, however mineral deposits that are economical to mine are less common. Titanium dioxide was first discovered in 1821, although it could not be mass produced until 1919. Widespread use of the pigment began in the 1940s. Since that time, it has become the most commonly used white pigment. The name comes from the Latin word Titan, the name for the elder brother of Kronos and ancestor of the Titans, and from the Greek word tito, meaning day or sun.

Pigment Name

PW5-Lithopone

Pigment Type

inorganic

Chemical Name

coprecipitated zinc sulphide and barium sulphate

Chemical Formula

Zn + BaSO4

Properties

Lithopone is a low tinting strength, semi-transparent white pigment that is often used as a filler or extender in other colors, or as the base for laked pigments.

Permanence

Lithopone is absolutely permanent and lightfast.

Toxicity

Lithopone is not toxic.

History

Lithopone was discovered by G.F. de Doubet in 1850. It  was developed commercially in the 1870s as a substitute or supplement for lead carbonate, to overcome the many shortcomings of white lead pigment, including toxicity, poor weathering, and darkening in the presence of sulfur compounds. It is used most often in interior paints and enamels. Its use as a white pigment has been superceeded in many applications by titanium dioxide.
