I love Xacto products and when I saw this knife on clearance, I couldn't resist purchasing it since I use them all the time. First, the good part is that it is a sturdy knife. It has a nice grip to it, and the blade extends and retracts easily into 3 positions (although I've only used the fullest setting). So I was happy with it until I had to replace the blade. Like most cutters, you have unscrew the body to access the blade. Unfortunately, the little metal handle part fell out, and it took me a bit to figure out how it went back in. I'm pretty good at fixing things, but I have to admit, this was a bit tricky. Next, I discovered that the blades required for this cutter is Xacto-brand specific! You cannot use a standard blade because the Xacto blades are 1/8" smaller and have a square hole in the middle. (You can look up the replacement blades on this site and see what I'm talking about.) If you try to use a standard blade that has the circular hole, your blade will not retract, leaving the sharp edge dangerously exposed. I know I was a bit bummed by this since I had purchased a 50-pk of replacement blades that fit fine with my other cutters, but not this one. I just hated the thought of having to purchase a 5-pk of specialized blades just to use in this cutter. The knife is sturdy, and the blades sharp, but for me, it's just too much of a hassle to deal with the extra cost and extra storage of specialized blades. My other cutters have easy release blades so you don't have to unscrew the body and deal with the metal handle falling out either. If you don't use cutters often, you may be happy with this one, but if you use them frequently, you will find other brands more user-friendly and cost effective in the long run.
