  • My primary brush of choice

    Experience: PROFESSIONAL

I started using these when I began a series of gouache drawings (a series that has lasted for 7 years). The expressive range available in this series of brushes fits the way I work, in fact, they are integrally a part of the way I work. The angled chisel design lets me make precise calligraphic strokes, long dagger-like lines and variable width strokes that a round brush just can't handle. Then I get that chisel point for finer dots and round-brush expressions. The bristle flexibility is a very "sable" experience without the fragility and expense. So now, they are a part of my work in oils. Treated well and handled gently, each brush serves for a long time. When the bristles inevitably "splay" they are still useful for a range of uses and effects. Now, if we can only get Utrecht to consider sizes up to 2", the world would be a better place.

Feels great in my hand and holds a nice amount of water. Edge comes to a point for finer lines and detail. Will use on larger paintings and for washes.

  • Fabulous brush!

I bought this brush from the Utrecht store in cranberry, NJ, just before the store closed down three to four years ago, and it did wonderfully with my watercolors! Not only that, it also works good with my acrylic's and great for blending and erasing pastels as well!
