  • Helpful hints to reviewer Jan O

I agree with Jan O that it's a good product for the price, and also that it does skin over a little and dry and flake in the top of the can between uses, but all you have to do is run the primer through any kind of sieve or strainer (cheap kitchen strainer works fine) before using and all the little dried flakes will be filtered out. Cover the unused portion with a cut-to-size circular piece of freezer-grade plastic between uses so there is minimal air contact to the product in the can. It does not matter if you get the metal can or the plastic container, although for the environment the metal is better.

  • Oil Primer White

I have had both good and bad results with Utrecht's oil primer. The good is that I like the finish it gives my canvases, very smooth and professional. The bad is that the shelf life of the primer is short. It dries & flakes making preparing a canvass nearly impossible, even with the metal can hammered tightly closed. I was excited to see that they are now offered in plastic 1 qt. containers & was hoping that that solved the problem. I ordered 6 qts of primer only to find that they sent metal cans .... again! :-( Jan
