MP Code #MP-03502-001   Item #03502-1001

Made by recycling the byproducts of acrylic paint manufacturing, Tri-Art Sludge Acrylic handles like an acrylic and can be used as a paint, gesso, or painting medium. It's an economical alternative to both a neutral ground and neutral color.

Sludge is semi-opaque and, although gray in tone (color will vary by batch), can be used in small quantities as an opacifier or medium-toned color extender. Use it in place of gesso when a muted base is desired. The quantity of solid particulate in the paint gives Sludge a light tooth, so it also makes it a suitable ground for mixed media applications.

Because Sludge is made with 100% acrylic emulsion, it's comparable in character to other acrylics. It's highly adhesive to a variety of surfaces, dries to a water-resistant semi-gloss finish, and can be easily applied with a variety of painting tools.

Conforms to ASTM D-4236.

16.9 oz (500 ml) jar.

    As reviewed by Lindsay

I picked up a jar of Sludge from the local Utrecht in Baltimore with a gift card. I was expecting a neutral tone but opening the jar I found that this batch was a reddish tone. I was a bit skeptical, but decided to give it a shot. The consistency was fairly thick, but spread on with a palette knife and smoothed out well with a stiff bristle brush. I have used sludge on canvas, paper, mat board and panels. It does a great job of covering and sealing the surface. I appreciate the toned color much more than I thought I would. I have been happy with every application and find that the one jar is going further than I expected. I have used supports treated with Sludge with oils, acrylics and water solluable oils. They all work well. I will be buying more. Thanks.
