  • Strathmore's 400 Series Watercolor paper

I love these pads, both sizes. I work in pen and ink with Inktense pencils by Derwent. I like the texture of paper and also it's capacity to take water when I add water to the Inktense colors for vibfrant effects. The extra 60 lb paper in between the 140 lb watercolor paper is good for working out rough ideas. Sturdy covers add protection while working on several pictures at once. Great prices at Utrecht.

  • " Sketchbooks are kind of like old friends"

The title of this review reveals a bit of, what may appear to be, an unwarranted affinity towards inanimate objects.Actually,a simple thing like a sketchbook can be considered an old friend, in the sense that you always want to bring it with you. When you draw or paint something that you are really proud of , the evidence is there for all to see.Since painting or drawing is a passion to begin with, all of your aspirations for future, larger painting are captured within the confines of this little black book.My recent purchase happens to be in preparation for an upcoming watercolor workshop, with what I consider to be one of the "masters" in watercolor. I am already familiar with the format of this sketchbook, in that it has " drawing" paper in amidst the watercolor paper. Thus allowing you the opportunity to "work up" a drawing in graphite and later return to the same idea and add "color".Strathmore has always been noted for producing superb products, and this happens to be one of them.
