Color-aid Corporation created its first color guide system of colored paper in the 1940's for photographers. After the Color-aid paper system was discovered by Josef Albers, an influential German-born artist and educator, this system of paper color samples quickly became an integral teaching tool in art and design classes across America. Today, graphic illustrators, fashion designers, architects, photographers, interior designers, artists and other creative professionals depend on Color-aid papers for many of their projects.
314 Color Full Set
Color-Aid expanded the system to the 314 color full set in 1990 to meet customer demands for brighter colors, more pastels and lighter tints. Pastels comprise most of the colors you see in the world around you and are therefore critical to the study and application of color in art and design. This range of 314 matt-finished colors includes:
34 vivid hues (saturated colors)
100 tints (clean, light colors)
47 shades (dark, deep colors)
114 pastels (compared to 36 in the standard set)
17 grays from dark to light
black
white
Available in 4 sizes
220 Color Standard Set
The Standard Set was first introduced in 1948 and remained Color-Aid's core product until it introduced the Full Set. This color guide pack includes 220 matt-finished colors and an instruction booklet that provides the organization of the colors and a grid for designating the colors (the designations are not printed on the back of the paper like they are in the Full Set). Color-Aid offers the Standard Set in 2 sizes.
