There can be nothing worse in an easel than one that can't stand up. The back 'supporting' leg wobbles left and right. Poor design. A Real bummer. ***Utrecht Response*** We are sorry to hear that your easel was defective. I bought this for my 14 year old son who is a talented, budding artist. Really I got it because I bought myself the Sienna Plein Air system and didn't want him stealing it like he does all my other supplies. I figured if he had his own french easel he'd leave mine alone. This easel is a little larger and heavier than I was expecting. I'm probably going to buy him one of those travel luggage carts so he can take it around town. If the easel fit in a padded backpack that might help but it's just a bit too big. If you're just gonna throw the thing in your car and set up a few feet away it's totally fine for that. For 88 bucks I'd say you get more than what you pay for. It's well designed and serves it's purpose but there are a few flaws. There were several rough edges that required sanding to avoid splinters. And I'm not sure if it's the wood or the hardware but after handling it for a few minutes your hands are really oily. The setup is annoying because you have to place the thing upside down, then telescope the legs to the desired level, then flip it over. That might be challenging to someone with a bad back because of the awkward movement. And the legs do not hold much weight. We had to buy three of those super duper spring clamps to hold them in place. Those were four bucks a piece so add 12 bucks to the price. Even with these complaints, 88 bucks was not much to spend to guarantee that my kid leave my fancy easel alone. And he loves the thing! Which is really all that matters. I actually asked him if he wants me to save so he can have his own fancy sienna plein air system and he said no! He likes his Blick French Easel just fine. So I consider this money well spent. I only gave 3 stars because it really is just an 88 dollar easel. It's good for what it is but if you're looking for more stars you're gonna have to pay the money.

It takes time to figure out the "setting up". It does the job fine! You can adjust height easily. Carrying it is awkward and it's actually heavy even empty. Also the shoulder strap I'll be switching out for something more comfortable. I did sand down the corners of the box. I think for the price it's a very good buy. I really like it!
