Until the turn of the century, many professional artists prepared their own artist canvas. As more and more amateurs took up artist paints & brushes, the demand for canvases prepared by traditional methods grew. In 1906 Victor Claessens founded his company and began producing top-quality artist linen canvas.

A century later, Claessens canvas is still being produced in the original building where it was founded. The descendents of Victor Claessens have made a conscious choice to keep a small-scale approach to artist canvas manufacturing and to honor the traditional methods for treating the product. The result is museum quality linen without equal.
