Artist Spotlight
Linda Preston

“It is my passion for color and for painting more what I feel than what I see, that is my window on the world around me. I do not feel bound to paint color realistically, but rather with emotional intensity and exaggeration.

Linda Preston has always drawn upon nature, landscape and people as a constant source of inspiration for dramatic movement and vibrant energy in her paintings. “Technique for an artist is the flower which blooms in order to celebrate the fruit; it is reality, which is the only path to mystery”.

The child of renowned Northern California artist, Robert Preston, Linda was primed to be an artist at an early age and encouraged to paint. After the family moved from Minneapolis, MN. to San Francisco, CA., Linda attended art classes for children at the Museum of Modern Art and De Young Museum, beginning at five and was exposed to modern abstract and impressionist painting by the age of nine.

Linda received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at California Polytechnic University, San Luis Obispo, California and her Masters of Fine Arts degree at Mount Saint Mary’s College, Los Angeles, California. By 1970, Linda decided that she could learn from extensive travel and set off on a journey that took her through Europe, Northern and Central Africa, the Caribbean, the Arctic Circle, and across North America. Shortly thereafter, she went from the museums of Europe to the raw desert culture of Morocco, traveling throughout the African continent.

Linda Preston’s works are consistently shown and included in numerous prestigious corporate collections. Her works also reside in prominent private collections in North America and Western Europe.

Marcia Reed - Landscape Painter

Marcia Reed in her own words…

I'm primarily a landscape painter. I don't want to be locked in to a specific media. I love drawing, and painting in watercolors, oils, acrylics and combining mixed medias.  When I'm working outdoors I like to depart from the information in front of me and interpret the landscape fusing my vision with color and movement.

In my studio in Easthampton, MA where I live and paint I work from my loose sketches in pen and ink, pitt pens and pencils. I then translate these drawings and watercolor sketches on to my canvas, masonite, clayboard or watercolor paper.  It is important to me at this point to go beyond the painted surface image. This is where the painting begins for me and I see what develops and I respond to it.

In my Nocturnal moonscapes I want to embrace a mood and enrich the color of night. These pieces are a constant challenge and yet bring me the most satisfaction.
