Acquainted with photography from an early age, she gravitated toward realistic imagery. When the family moved to Florida, she earned her degree in Art History and Fine Arts in 1975 from Florida Atlantic University. Swimming against the popular current of the times, she painted hyper-realistically, eventually finding a career as a legal medical illustrator. A move to Arizona has allowed her to take up painting full time. Thematically, she moves around a lot, including light fantasy, still life, erotica and humor, and she has won many awards. Joe will be giving a portrait demonstration for The Pasadena California Art Education Association Nov 15th – 18th 2007. Joseph will present the critical aspects of portrait painting with a live model demonstration in oil paint. There will be step by step instructions for educators to take notes on color, lighting, composition, mixing and palette management, block in, edges and numerous historical references to artists of the past. The portrait demo will last 2 ½ to 3 hours and questions will be answered throughout the demo. This workshop will inspire educators and students to confidently approach the subject of portraiture. Joseph Gyurcsak is the resident artist and brand manager for Utrecht Art Supplies; he travels extensively throughout the United States to provide top level instruction regarding art materials, painting demos and historical knowledge on art. His article “Painting Interior Light” October 2006 was voted best oil instructional article in the last 4 years in the American Artist Magazine and will be reprinted in their highlights Magazine this fall. A new article on still life painting entitled “Subtle Grays” comparisons between Morandi and Cezanne along with a step by step instructional will be printed in the American Artist 2007 December Issue coming out this October; also an article in Chemical & Engineering News will be out in October regarding an interview with Joseph on the history of making oil color.
