This is an 11.5 oz. canvas which is pretty darn strong first off - add that it is not reactive to humidity changes and it is a very fine smooth weave...woah. This stuff is a serious painters dream canvas.

This is what you need if you are looking for an archival painting support. This is the recommended painting support by the Canadian Conservation Institute and totally blows away cotton and linen canvases in my opinion. Don't worry about it being too smooth. Add a little water to your gesso and go easy with the sanding between coats and you will find it has more than enough tooth. It has an even, uniform weave which to me is ideal, especially for realisitc work where you don't want the illusion of space destroyed. I hate knots, runs and bumps in my canvases and this is totally free from them. I also hate slack, saggy canvases, and you can totally elimate that with this product since you can stretch it tight as a drum and it will actually stay like that after gessoing. Polyester is all I will use from now on.

I've used this product for two paintings, and found it easy to stretch, wrap around the back of the stretcher for a "gallery wrap", and to be a good painting surface for acrylics and oils. I put two coats of gesso on, and it was good to go!
