This natural hair brush built in traditional japanese style holds large amounts of water and pigment yet still allows you to do fine point detailed work. Originally the "quill" brush was constructed from large bird feather quills but, today we use a plastic sleeve for the ferrule. This non-metal ferrule won't leave any marks on your coated paper or bisque-fired ceramics. The natural hair tufts are hand-tied and then fastened to short wood handles with brass wire. Brush heads are round shape. Choose by size.

I bought the large variety of this brush at a local Utrecht and was a bit worried over the pricing, as I believe you get what you pay for. I don't believe I payed too much for this brush at all. This is the first, large squirrel brush that I have had the pleasure to use, and it has been pleasant. The hair soaks up a great deal of water and, when wet, the brush comes to a fine point, for its size. I can lay down a nice wash area without having to worry about reloading, though I'm still learning to work with it. As stated I don't have an experience with Isabey or Da Vinci quills, which I am certain are wonderful, but this brush seems to be a very good deal and allows for a pleasure painter like myself to utilize a fine tool with a price that isn't easily matched. The only concern that I cannot address at the time is how reliable the brush is over the long haul, time will tell but the brush looks and feels well and substantially made. I'm off to by the 2 smaller sizes later this week!!! P.S. Price + performance = 5 star rating on this brush.
