What does Smyth Sewing Mean to Artists?

Smyth sewn book bindings are typically used on books meant to stand the test of time and are regarded as the highest quality book binding available. An indicator of a library quality, archival safe book, Smyth sewing is found on most textbooks, books targeted for libraries and lab notebooks because those books have to stand up to years of wear and tear. Utrecht uses this binding method on some of our sketchbooks because we understand the beating your sketchbook can take.

    Experience: PROFESSIONAL

I love this paper. I use it on a regular basis for pencil and gouache, and an occasional watercolor, however it does have a tendency buckle with the watercolor. My biggest problem is with the metal spiral binding. Not the greatest, but since I remove much of the work for framing, the sewn binder wouldn't work as well. I would also like to see them make a larger size pad with the spiral binding. And it is pricey. All in all though, I haven't been able to find another paper equal to the feel and quality of this paper.
