I purchased this easel one and a half years ago for landscape painting. It has worked perfectly well. I can set it up and break it down in minutes. It's lightweight, but has proven sturdy. Nothing has broken on it, at all. The nobs work well, and stay tight when tightened. It has plenty of storage for the tubes of paint, plus the two "secret" areas behind the sliding tray where I can place my dirty brushes and rags apart from everything to deal with them later. I have also stored a small canister of turpentine there at times. The metal dividers can be finicky, but once you learn not to mess with them, they stay put and work fine. I am the sort to maintain my tools and keep a clean workspace. I don't have years of dried paint mounds at the top of my palette. I scrape it down periodically. I imagine someone who does not keep their palette and paints tidy, might desire a separate fold out palette to bring along, but this easel has worked perfectly for me. I take the easel, my apron with medium in one pocket and turp in the other, a water bottle and some bug spray, and I'm good to go, anywhere. Oh, and I just ditched the silly, black tote back after the first use. It has no pockets and does not make anything easier. I suppose it could be used for something else.

I am extremely satisfied with the French easel I purchased recently. The price was excellent, and the devise is easy to set up and take down for field work or for storage.

I used my Box French Easel for the first time today. Once I got the hang of it, it's pretty intuitive, and holds everything you need for plein air painting. I just wish it had wheels... by the time I'd loaded it up, it was heavy to carry around. But I'd recommend it to anyone seeking a portable easel.
