Varnish for use on paintings made with oil colors, acrylics and alkyds, Gamvar is a low molecular weight synthetic resin varnish with a high refractive index similar to that of natural resins and oils so colors are fully saturated to bring out the best in the painting.

Water clear, Gamvar is a revolutionary development in protecting paintings from dirt and dust. It does not yellow or become increasingly difficult to remove like natural resin varnishes made of DAMAR or mastic.

Contains a uv stabilizer.

  • Gamvar Picture Varnish

After reviewing the on-line video "demonstration on Gamvar application", I felt confident in this product. The results are beautiful, I found that the canvas oil painting came out with a slight shine, while the oil painting on board resuted with a high shine. Adding Gamvar varnish brought the much needed depth of color to both paintings.

  • Gamvar Picture Varnish--it's great!

Many years ago, following some less-than-desirable experiences with traditional varnishes, the prospect of varnishing new work would elicit considerable trepidation. I recently learned about Gamvar Picture Varnish. It was developed in collaboration w the National Gallery. It has many advantages over traditional varnishes, i.e., it can be applied as soon as the art is touch-dry, it is easy to apply, and dries quickly. The product is permeable to air thus allowing the underlayers of paint to continue to dry even after application. It is easily removed with Gamsol Odorless Mineral Spirits (my preferred solvent when working with oils). I am thrilled with this product and recommend it to others.
