Etching is the process of using strong acid to cut into a metal surface to create a design in in the metal, which is the reproduced with inks and a press. Lithography is a method for printing using a stone or metal etching plate with a completely smooth surface. Invented in 1796 by as a cheap method of publishing posters, lithography can be used to print text or artwork onto paper or other suitable material.
