Old Holland is one of the world’s oldest makers of artist oil colors, established by skilled artists over three hundred years ago.

Old Holland came into being as a guild. In its last form William Roelofs was the master, Albert Roelofs was the craftsman, and Roelof Roelofs the apprentice, or primary manufacturer. The Roelof family lived in Scheveningen, Holland where production of their artist oil paints was carried out until the 1980s, and it is for this reason the name Scheveningen appears frequently in the names of the Old Holland Classic Oil Colors. Many of the original oil paint recipes and techniques are still employed today, passed down through the generations. All 168 colors of the Old Holland Oil Paint range are lightfast, and lightfast pigments of the same shades have replaced any traditional non-lightfast pigments.
